Christmas Ornaments

My girls and I are always ready for Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel.  The first one of the season for me was, The Christmas Ornament.  In this movie, one of the supporting characters tells the story of their ornaments and how so many of them are from gift shops, marking the events of their life.

Later in the weekend, I was putting up a tree in my dining room.  This tree is metallic and red ornaments, many of them angels.  In previous years, I have had help with this tree but this year the twins just wanted to relax during their break from college and the older two girls have family trees of their own.  I understood and started a new chapter, decorating this tree by myself.  At first I was a bit sad, then as I was pulling out the ornaments, I remembered all the events that were connected to the ornaments.

Here is one my brother brought me from Europe,  when he studied abroad, many years ago.

Then my brother and his wife had made a very special  ornament painted for us.  My sister-in-law called one snowy morning and said, "don't go outside for an hour."  She didn't say why but we did as we were told.

After seeing the ornament, I realized the importance of not disturbing the snow.  My brother took a photograph that morning.

Then there was the trip to Disney World, with the entire family, Paige included.

From the gift shop at Ellis Island on a trip with Erin

With the twins at Mount Vernon

Add to this some angels

And I have a tree full of memories. If this is not enough memories, the family room tree is amass with memories.  More trips, school events, first Christmas, ones I have made (sewing and cross-stitch)  and many more.

What about you, do you have a favorite ornament?  An ornament you like to make as a gift?  Do you like to watch Hallmark Movies, too?

  1. Yes, Lori, we have many memories on our tree, too! I have a few from my grandmother's tree, a few from my parents, and a couple that I made in grade school. Lots of firefighter ornaments, and a couple of sewing ones, too!

  2. Oh tree ornaments are so special. We have none on our tree that are just generic, they are all ones the kids made or we acculated from trips or special occassions. I love the one your brother had made for you, that is gorgeous! My favorite ones are always the ones the kids make. I now know my my MIL insisted we all come over and help decorate the tree, she is over it now, but I can only imagine how sad it can be to decorate the tree without children helping. You're a good sport!

Oh, this is so nice! Your ornaments are so beautiful! I decorated my tree last night by myself (my husband's out of the country for a few more days) and I felt a little less lonely thinking of all the memories attached to the different ornaments.

  6. I can understand how you felt. This is the second Christmas my daughter is not home. She is finishing up her second year serving in the Peace Corp. in Indonesia. My son was home on break when I decorated our tree, but he had his own activities going on!
I started feeling sad, but started to pray asking the Lord to help me! As I unwrapped each ornament, I also began to think about all the memories and blessings my family has received.
    Merry Christmas Lori!!!

  7. I have a collection of glass ornaments that I love from as far back as my great grandmother. My husband will put up the tree and put the lights on, but it's my job to put on the decorations (I'm embarrassed to say that we've been so busy, our tree is only about half decorated at this point). The ornament picturing your house is gorgeous - what a great gift!

  10. I was inspired by images on Pinterest of so many book crafts; one that caught my eye that I knew I would be capable of making was an image of a holiday ornament made from pages of a book. I gathered up some old plastic colored balls and grabbed.sweatshirt
